From an invoice for ambulance equipment. No details on the item, other than a cost of approx. 185 euros. Just above on the list is a bedpan and below is a scale. Any ideas? I'm having a hard time figuring out what this could be... Thanks very much!

You can't change an answer without withdrawing an answer entirely and submitting a new one. What you can do is what you and I have both already done: add "electronic notepad" (etc.) as a note to an existing answer!

notepad computer I just figured out that this is known as a 'notepad computer' in English. I would like to change the answer I suggestes from 'small computer w/ touchscreen' to 'notepad'. How can I do that?

Yes I thought it sounded rather expensive, myself! I am beginning to suspect that it must be something that serves the same basic functions as a black-/whiteboard, but slightly less antediluvian - possibly along the lines of Florence's suggestion, but a more basic model/design than the one you have found for €990...

An ardoise is a small computer with a touch screen which is probably used in the ambulance to record information. It is an 'ardoise électronique', just a computerised little blackboard as the other answerers said. I don't know the English name but I'll try to find it.

Yes it is definitely a notepad computer. Definition:

bill, payment owing

ardoise is a slate where amounts spend by customers are chalked up. So it means amounts owing.

Payer l'ardoise is an old French expression:
ardoise compte de marchandise de consommation prises a credit.
It is simply a bill.

blackboard

It seems hard to imagine that it would mean an unpaid slate, slotted into an invoice between other items. I wonder if it could be a blackboard of some kind. I have no idea whether such things might be used in ambulances, e.g. for jotting down the patient's vital signs, but it's not impossible!

agree Emma Paulay : I think you're probably on the right track here. It may be a small handheld "slate", a whiteboard - like taxi drivers hold up when they collect someone from the station/airport. Ambulances are used for "non-emergency" transport in France.

Le prix m'avait étonnée, c'est vrai, mais une simple ardoise ne couterait pas 185 euros! Apparemment, le terme de tablette ardoise est très utilisé pour les ambulances. Il y a sans doute différents modèles, différents prix.
