French term

adiporeverse

French to English Medical Cosmetics, Beauty body creams
This is an active ingredient. Anyone know how it should be translated? My best guess so far is "lipo-reverse" but I am far from sure.

Please only answer if you can provide some kind of evidence or learned opinion... ;)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Karen That makes sense.
Karen Vincent-Jones (X) Dec 8, 2008:
Anti-cellulite? Fat-busting? If this term is from a cosmetics company, they may have had to modify the description 'adiporeverse' because there is NO cream which will actually dissolve fat.
Cath St Clair (X) (asker) Dec 8, 2008:
Hi Melissa The following sentence is a bullet point in a 'to do' list:

'Modifier le descriptif de certains actifs (ex : adiporeverse)'

You could be onto something here. Perhaps this is not in fact an ingredient, but rather a description of one.
Melissa McMahon Dec 8, 2008:
See question in discussions box - is the term actually in an ingredients list?
Melissa McMahon Dec 8, 2008:
I wouldn't use lipo-reverse... ... because it looks like it's a registered name (cf. eg. https://www.feelunique.com/p/Lierac-Morpho-Slim-Anti-Celluli... "Adiporeverse" looks like an invented name as well: is it actually in an ingredients list or is it just featured elsewhere on the product as the action of the product.

anti-cellulite

This is the type of claim that cosmetics companies use- the cream will remove /dissolve cellulite (despite the fact that there is no cream that will dissolve body fat!)
Example sentence:

So-called 'anti-cellulite' creams do not remove fat, they merely plump up the skin to make it look smoother.

adiporeverse

Hi,
Nothing particularly learned about my opinion, but I would say that 'adipo' is a prefix for adipocyte or adipose (fat) and that it should be the same in English. Looks like a reasonable name in both languages.
Peer comment(s):

agree lundy : yes it can be understood in both languages and I don't think, as it would seem to be a name originally proposed for a product, that it should be changed in the translation anyway

if you break it up into Adipo reverse you might be on the riught track here. in context of diet , braking down the fat cells, not sure how this fits with the cream, but maybe it gets you into the right direction.

Apparemment le terme est identique en anglais:

-- Abstract

Background
Adiponectin (Adipo), an adipocyte hormone involved in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism, has already been identified as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetes. However, successful delivery of Adipo to the receptors is difficult due to their peptide characteristics. Receptors for Adipo are abundantly expressed in the liver and skeletal muscle.
