French term

à la rencontre de

French to English Marketing Business/Commerce (general) franchise
The sentence goes as follows:
**À la rencontre des** métiers de l’artisanat, de l’industrie et du service, le groupe XXX appuie depuis 20 ans l’implantation de son réseau sur une connaissance réelle des marchés et de leurs rentabilités.

Does this mean "Seeking to imitate ..." "Following in the footsteps of ..." or something completely different? Many thanks for any suggestions.

Discussion

Conor McAuley Sep 2, 2005:
Sounds like "combining" is right then - though their puff is a bit overblown!
I decided to forego Poitiers and La Rochelle for Dijon and Amsterdam with some old friends from Dublin (Don't think working holidays work - either you're on or you're off).
Clare Macnamara (asker) Sep 2, 2005:
Hi Conor! The group referred to is a dry-cleaner's chain, which I should probably have mentioned when posting the question. I feel this would point towards Sarah's answer but I'll stick to the rules and grade later! How did your luxurious working hols go? Sln go fill.
Conor McAuley Sep 2, 2005:
I reckon Sarah or Sylvia's answer is the "right" answer, but it depends completely on the wider context.

Another take, as in group XXX has "built relationships with" artisans, etc. to create a network that they use to get first-hand knowledge of markets and their profitabilites
