Work with infectious agents - laboratory
I am translating a laboratory safety protocol for a company that does microbiological and molecular tests on animal, environmental and food samples. The protocol covers personal protective equipment and working with scalpels, flames, chemicals, etc. One of the bullets in the section entitled “Travail avec des agents infectieux” is the following instruction: “Il est obligatoire d’employer des anses de plastique lors des manipulations de laboratoire.” The only “anses” that come to mind are inoculating loops, but “manipulations de laboratoire” covers more than streaking plates or working with liquid cultures. What loops is the author referring to, if not inoculating loops? Thanks for your input. There is no other mention of “anses” in the protocol.

plastic inoculating loop
What is important here is the 'plastique' part. These are sterile disposable loops. When working with infectious agents, metallic loops could produce aerosols when they are put to a flame for sterilization and are more likely to cause skin-puncturing accidents.

plastic handles in this case
IMO

plastic holders
Plastic holders may be designed to grip and release and perform other functions, which would be useful in a laboratory setting. Handles, on the other hand, would seem to be more limited in their functionality.
