Have just realised that I omitted to post a question to follow on from my question about the "axe de volet chaud/froid". This is a manufacturing defect in a car climate system. The exact expression is "aléa de fabrication sur l'axe de volet chaud/froid et sur la **butée de carter* (présence de porosité).

Carter (clutch) bearing
I've just ordered a clutch bearing (butée) for my car. One well known manufacturer of such bearings is Carter. So I believe this refers to a Carter bearing - probably for a clutch.

Having just read a note by the asker, this clearly doesn't refer to a clutch but to another part of the vehicle. If you 'google' Carter bearing, you'll find all kinds of automotive bearings.
