French term

des respirations autour de spectacles

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting theatre; arts
The programming of this art and theatre centre will include "des respirations autour de spectacles et de rencontres poétiques et philosophiques."

I'm assuming that "respirations" here refers to mini-events, meeting directors, actors, etc, readings, lectures(-demonstrations), etc, a catch-all term.

I'd like something that retains the poetic character of respirations.

Emma Paulay Oct 8, 2009:
Great! Thanks David, well I shall agree with Eutychus then! I'm gasping for a breather do I think I'll nip out and get some fresh air to inspire me for this afternoon :-)
David Vaughn (asker) Oct 8, 2009:
respirations Thanks Emma. I can confirm we are talking about actual events. I have also seen this usage elsewhere - it's not a total invention.
Emma Paulay Oct 8, 2009:
Meditation? Having just read the phrase in context (easy to find on the net), I wonder if they are referring to something more "profound". Maybe the idea of "respiration" is the rhythm of breathing? I think I would find out exactly what they mean before attempting to translate it.

artistic interludes

Another idea which could cover a variety of different side events.

breathing spaces

Just an idea - one which has both a metaphorical and a literal sense which might work here...?

agree Evans (X) : You beat me to it! I was about to suggest this and was wondering if it was too obscure, but if more than one of us thought it, it might work

'Breathing space' would perhaps imply fatigue or boredom. Show organisers would not like to imply this. Just a suggestion.

reflections

I think these are events during which one contemplates (with others; in a discussion; possibly with the artists) the performance one has just seen.
