French term

enquêtes de terrain

French to English Social Sciences Agriculture Research and development
This appears in a job description for a research institute in France. The description of the role to be carried out by the successful candidate includes:

"Il s'appuiera à la fois sur les méthodes de mesure d'impact environnemental et social et sur les méthodes de type écobilan ou analyse de cycle de vie (ACV). Un important travail d'enquêtes de terrain en Afrique sub-saharienne et/ou en Asie permettra de tester les méthodes et de recueillir des données"

The candidate profile includes:

"...avec une bonne expérience en enquêtes de terrain dans des pays en développement sur les mesures d'impact."

Does it mean "field survey" or "ground survey" - in the field, or on the ground, i.e. in the country/region/area being studied as opposed to in the lab.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): writeaway, Anne Girardeau

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

field surveys

It think "enquête" is more a survey than a study ("étude").

agree Gabrielle Leyden : A field survey is "out on the ground" as opposed to in the lab; "soil studies" would be "études du sol"

Thanks - I searched the site but couldn't find it. "rapport de terrain" was the closest I found.

field trials

This would be the term used in agricultural research for testing crops, equipment, inputs or techniques in the field as opposed to in the lab or small test plots.
