English term

(Gap) Crossing

English to Portuguese Other Military / Defense
Military term, I believe referring to gap crossing, meaning "projecting combat power across a linear obstacle".
I wonder if there is a specific term in Portuguese (EU) to express this concept.

Full sentence:

We should be crossing them (the opponents in a war).

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

(gap) crossing => atravessar obstáculos

A gap crossing is “projecting combat power across a linear obstacle.”8 Such operations must address a threefold problem: first, to move combat power to the near side of the gap in safety; second, to cross the gap; and third, to reform combat power on the far side.

Não tenho experiência em tradução de textos militares, mas encontrei (penso eu) algumas pistas para uma possível tradução de "gap-crossing".
Espero que ajude.

ART 1.6.1.3 Conduct Gap Crossing Operations
A gap crossing operation is a combined arms operation to project
combat power across a linear obstacle. The obstacle is linear in that it
creates a line crossing all or a significant portion of the area of
operations. The obstacle can be wet gap (water obstacle) or dry gap
that is too wide to overcome by selfbridging.

Linear obstacles are primary mobility concerns in modern land warfare and especially in offensive operations, whose characteristics of initiative and tempo are stymied by delays from natural or man-made obstacles. Accordingly, the U.S. Army has produced doctrinal manuals for overcoming them. These manuals have recently evolved from two separate (now obsolete) manuals for river crossings and breaching operations, Field Manual (FM) 90-13, River Crossing Operations, and FM 90-13-1, Combined Arms Breaching Operations; to a 2008 update (also now obsolete) on all types of gap crossings in FM 30-90.12, Combined Arms Gap-Crossing Operations; and finally, in 2016, to Army Techniques Publication (ATP) 3-90.4, Combined Arms Mobility.

Gaps are “linear obstacles or gaps … natural and man-made, wet or dry” and variable in size.7 They are below grade and differ from above-ground complex obstacles like walls, which are not crossed but rather breached. A gap crossing is “projecting combat power across a linear obstacle.”
