At the end of a marriage certificate, there is:

Masters of Wedding Families: ________ (sealed)

The _____ stands for a name

I'm not quite sure what does the word "Families" mean here...
"Famílias de Mestres-de-Cerimónias" sounds a bit odd. Any idea?

Elisabete, did you by any chance open my link? It's a Chinese wedding with pictures and all... about half way down there is a picture of the bride and groom and their ** master of ceremony** people...you also found a site that mentioned this, and notheing else makes scence, so, I think you have your answer...but check the link, it shows the wedding and who all attended the wedding and their customs. Good luck!

Se tem um 'seal' depois das assinaturas, é provável que 'master' seja oficial de registro, juiz de paz. Estranho mesmo é ter mais de um .. Juiz de paz e escrivão? So it's just a guess...

No, it's not It's not british. The certificate was issued in the Republic of China.

Can you be more specific? Is it a British Marriage Certificate? I have to tell you that I have NEVER heard this term before. I even consulted someone who is a notary public and he never heard this term either.

Pode dizer respeito às duas famílias envolvidas no casamento: a família do noivo e a família da noiva.

Obrigada pela ajuda, mas penso que não se refere às famílias, pois os apelidos não coincidem, nem no caso do noivo, nem no da noiva.

Sera' que pode ser no sentido de testemunha? Nao tenho certeza.
Se o certificado original e' em chines e foi traduzido para o ingles, pode ser que ja' houve um problema na traduca.

aoliveira09, não pode ser "testemunha" porque logo na linha a seguir aparece "officializing witness" e a assinatura, por isso este não é a testemunha, são mesmo as duas pessoas que celebraram o matrimónio.

Chefes das famílias dos noivos

Faz mais sentido traduzir toda a frase. Chefe de família era uma designação usual há uns anos atrás em Portugal, título que normalmente pertencia ao homem e que tinha certos direitos. Suponho que terá o mesmo sentido. Em POrtugal caíu em total desuso. Acho que felizmente
