Marlene Curtis Jan 26, 2010:
Casts of the sculpture It sounds like the sculptures were copied from the original, they are cast copies (cópiad de gesso).
Action=noticia&id=56775...

Lynnea Hansen Jan 26, 2010:
Yes, Teresa! Exactly what I thought--the cast, then, is a plaster copy of the original (in this case bronze) sculpture. The translation, then, could be "cópia em gesso".

Casts In the early Renaissance, artists, such as Michelangelo, were the first to carry out restorations, to make moulds and collect plaster casts (http://www.cvaonline.org/sculpture/plastercasts/artists.htm)
Lynnea Hansen Jan 26, 2010:

It seems to me the "cast" is the sculpture itself, and not the mold.
"Casting is a manufacturing process by which a liquid material is usually poured into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. The solidified part is also known as a casting, which is ejected or broken out of the mold to complete the process." From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casting
If so, then "casts" could be "exemplares".
