Yes Marlene It refers to a company. I dont have any other context. It is just this setence.

Counterparts clearly refers to XXX (and XXX stands for the omitted company's name) and I believe all the respondents it interpreted that way.

Coolbrowne is correct. The context is quite truncated and it does not clarify what "counterparts" refers to.

Context? I can't believe that you already got such a rich variety of guesses, given that the truncated text fragment supplied fails to establish the reference of the possessive/relative "its". In other words, said counterparts are counterparts to/of what? (A person or persons? A business? A process? Some other entity?). By the way, if it turns out to be a person, or persons, the original erred in choosing the possessive "its".

As contrapartes são empresas com uma relação de participação na empresa, seja ela mãe, associada, afiliada... Neste caso devem ser mais do que apenas parceiros.
