Discussion

rkillings Jul 17, 2014:
"net short positionS" tout court is what is said in the trade. Yes, each such position results from selling short, or making short sales, but in this context "short" needs no qualifier. If you're talking about short-TERM positions, OTOH, you do need that qualifier.

Note the plural here. *Each* net short position may have to be reported individually.
Pamela Hewitt (asker) Jul 16, 2014:
I referred this query to the client and they advised 'net short selling position'. Also the Robert & Collins Dictionnaire du Management, Commercial, Financier, Economique, Juridique gives 'short position' for 'position vendeur'

net short positions

Plenty of laws and regulations require disclosure of long positions in shares of publicly traded companies, but it's the *short* positions that market regulators really get exercised about. Esp. in the EU. Esp. in France.;-)

This is about an investment company declaring its net short positions (in particular securities), not about it being "net short" overall. Only a trader can be net short.
