French term
sorties des activités non pérennes
French to English
Bus/Financial
Finance (general)
investment banking
An overview of an IT consultancy company specialising in Market Finance.
I think sorties = exits.
Not entirely sure what "activités non pérennes" are? unsustainable/low-margin activities?
Thanks very much in advance for any ideas you can give!
"Mission :

// what is "strictly not quite right but still suitable" in one context can be a total nonsense in some other; what makes you think that this bank and/or IT consultancy are worried about any other shade of green except $$$$?

Pérenne = sustainable. See here: http://dictionnaire.reverso.net/francais-anglais/pérenne - I can't see that it's that stupid a suggestion, given the lack of information. Thanks for making your point in such a polite way, though.

: "Sustainable" is a perfectly good suggestion in financial contexts, often used to described financial and economic models. However, it could only be affirmed by greater context. (Quite a sensible suggestion). "Activities" rather than "practices".

: "sustainable"/"unsustainable" definitely means "tree hugging". No evidence for this angle..

: "Pérenne", "perennisable" IS "sustainable" and it has been so since some French translators with brains realized that "durable" for sustainable is a contresens, some years ago already.

exiting from short-lived missions / tasks / activities
letting go / abandoning ...
non pérennes = short-lived, that don't last long
an example: "fixing the Year 2000 bug" - it's not going to be needed again anytime soon,
OTOH developing an on-line payment system IS part of "activités pérennes" as "on-line payment systems" are here to stay for the long run.

or in this case "pérenne" is something that is a lasting need/task as part of trading floor software.

: that doesn't sound like a phrase that would be used in English, though.

I invented "short-lived"? or "abandoning"? or is it the combination "abandoning short-lived activities" that sounds so odd?

Nikki Scott-Despaigne
: A term based on "abandon" as you suggest in the body of your post (abandonment?) rather than "exiting"; "short-lived" more journalistic than business register

elimination of non-recurrent activities
Just another suggestion, really. Perhaps they don't want an activity that very rarely occurs to be included in their program?

discontinuation of non-permanent activities/operations
Happens all the time when some area of business is put into run-off mode, for whatever reason.

'activités non récurrentes' is an entirely common term in FR (~70k Ghits), and for whatever reason, the writer chose NOT to use it here. Perhaps the activities being discontinued are going to go on recurring for the company for quite a while -- just not indefinitely.
