French term
soufflage
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Architecture
When insulating panels are added to exterior walls of a house, the wall thickness is incerased and the door and window frames become recessed. A piece of wood is then added to the door or window frames, to increase their thickness. This extension to the frames is called a "soufflage". An example can be seen at https://giguereportesetfenetres.com/info/materiaux-de-souffl...
I have not been able to find the English term for "soufflage". Many dictionaries/glossaries give "blowing", which is incorrect in this application. Any suggestions?

reveal board
I wonder where they got soufflage for this ....
The surface perpendicular (or splayed) to a door or window frame is what is known as a 'reveal'. A 'reveal board' effectively extends the depth of the reveal to the new plane (internal or external) of the wall.
Weber (St Gobain) shows how reveal boards are applied here: https://www.de.weber/en/facade-wall/ready-use-reveal-insulat...
There must be a French equivalent somewhere but I haven't found it. I'm curious to know what THEY call soufflage.
More examples of 'reveal board' in image below.

: They can also be made of plastic or metal, so maybe 'strip'. Something to do with breathing space?

I think the idea is to have the thinnest (but nvrtless aesthetically pleasing) board (be it plastic or whatever) possible so as to maximize the thickness of insulation between it and the original masonry reveal.

jamb
The extension of door or window frames is called a jamb. Example photo:

: A jamb is part an integral part of a door or window, not a separate component

trim
Window Finishing Trim
To install it, the trim must first be cut to the right size and then secured onto the window frame using screws or adhesive. Any gaps or seams are then filled and sanded down for a smooth finish, and the trim is painted or stained to match the window frame and walls.

: "the trim is painted or stained to match the window frame and walls" so it CAN'T BE a "trim" as this "soufflage" is in fact an extension of the window frame. Can anything be "part of" and "outside of" at the same time?
