I may be old-fashioned, but it doesn't feel safe to me. For a while I had my passwords in the Cloud, but they got all mixed up and it was a mess.

Absolutely not!
If this is referring to a third-party service, my customers would have a fit.

I will, of course, download and upload from customers' own exclusive FTP sites and client servers which have been cleared by their security administrator for safe use.

Nay, nay, and thrice nay. I prefer to take the time to backup my files onto a pen drive.

I did try out Dropbox from my backup PC, but the next morning when I wanted to start working again, I appeared to have to do so through the darned thing (Dropbox) rather than directly on my PC, which I found unsettling. Its icon now irritatingly pops up every time I switch that particular PC on, but I just ignore it.

I'll stick to the old school method, thanks very much.

Local NAS storage for back-up and a USB HDD to back that up now and again.
As cloud-based storage, I use my FTP space sometimes when I want to be able to access some files while away.

only dropbox Jun 2, 2017

I use dropbox for personal things like sharing family photos,
I also find it useful if I have to send a really big file to a customer.
Only once have I shared a job with other translators for which we put the glossaries on dropbox so that we could update them.
I 've never had the problem Neil reported, maybe he screwed up when he installed Dropbox!

Nope Jun 2, 2017

Never, but only because I do not know where the servers are where the stuff is being saved.
And I had a conversation with my sister recently about this (she is in the business) stating my concerns about hackers. She laughed out loud telling me that 99% of stuff that is stollen from the "Cloiud" are inside jobs because your data is saved spread around the world and unless you know around about where it has been scattered, you will never find it from outside.

No, but... Jun 2, 2017

... it does amuse me to think just how many crack hackers there would need to be out there to trawl through 5 billion people's shopping lists, sexts and dick pix to find that one elusive nugget of earth-shattering information some under-NDAed translator accidentally uploaded to the cloud...

Could be like counting sheep... in fact I'm feeling positively drowsy already... good night...

I save my projects in my computer. I also have the keys of my apartment in my pocket, not with someone else.

Yes, if... Jun 2, 2017

If sending yourself a copy of the job you are working on counts as "cloud based storage", then I do. I often keep a copy of my current work on my gmail account so I can access it from different locations/computers, if necessary.

I do use DropBox and OneDrive to backup my calculation/statistics/billing spreadsheets, TBs, and several other documents I change regularly. But I will not use it for TMs or to any documents from clients. I would be violating my NDA's, as well noted by Julian.
