Together with Vodafone Netherlands, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has successfully deployed its Radio Dot System at Radboud University, Netherlands, the first live enterprise deployment of the system.
The system improves indoor performance for mobile broadband users, removing bottlenecks by providing coverage to different kinds of users in medium to large indoor locations using an innovative antenna element – a radio dot – which enables high performance mobile broadband.

The recently-released Ericsson ConsumerLab report “Business Users Go Mobile” reveals that the need for indoor coverage has increased and needs to be improved. 9 out of 10 decision-makers agree that indoor data traffic over 3G/4G/LTE has increased compared to 2 years ago.

At Mobile World Congress 2014, Vodafone agreed with Ericsson to closely collaborate to pioneer the deployment of such innovative in-building cellular solutions. This led to the first live call being made in October 2014 on such a system deployed in Vodafone Netherlands. The Ericsson Radio Dot System is an integral part of Vodafone’s new enterprise in-building solutions portfolio, an innovation to solve limited in-building mobile coverage and capacity without relying on the availability of macro coverage outside the building.
High-speed data connectivity within enterprises is essential to support Vodafone consumers’ continued drive for productivity and flexibility. The Ericsson Radio Dot System leverages the same industry-leading features found in Ericsson's macro base station, including Carrier Aggregation and Combined Cell for WCDMA and LTE.

• New devices, growing interest and improved internet stability is transforming the world of games according to a new Ericsson ConsumerLab report
• There is potential for gamification to enter more areas, such as increasing employee performance, aiding education and in personal development
• Many games will expand and involve interactions with the physical world some will use wearables, such as connected watches or wrist bands.
As more people and devices become connected, industries are being transformed, and the digital gaming industry is no different. It is changing like never before, according to a new Ericsson ConsumerLab report called “New ways to play games.” Gaming has become more socially acceptable as a mainstream form of culture and consumers are looking for game immersion and socialization. This leads to a desire for devices and tools to be continuously improving, offering new, enhanced gaming experiences.
“The introduction of very personalized, app-based, multi-purpose devices such as the smartphone has enabled gaming to reach a much wider audience,” says Niklas Heyman Rönnblom, Senior Advisor at Ericsson ConsumerLab. “Many of today’s games are leveraging internet connectivity to add more aspects such as multiplaying. As this continues to develop further it will stress the importance of improved coverage, performance and reliability. Any interruptions to the gaming experience are a great source of frustration.”
This report is based on online interviews with 60 gamers (20 per country) in the US, South Korea and Brazil, 8000 online respondents from Brazil, US and South Korea (Ericsson ConsumerLab, Analytical Platform 2013) and 13 interviews were made with industry and academic experts.
Interesting findings in the report were as follows:
• The profile of a gamer is changing. Our research showed that 85 percent in South Korea, 75 percent in US and 53 percent in Brazil of respondents play fixed or mobile games. (Ericsson ConsumerLab analytical platform, age 16-59).There is an even split between males and females, slightly more male in Brazil. 50 percent of the gamers in US were over 34 years old, whereas in South Korea 50 percent were over 40. In Brazil almost 60 percent of the gamers were under 30 years old.
• It is not bandwidth that is the most important aspect of the network quality for gaming, but rather the stability and reliability. The number one pain point for gamers is disruption of the seamless experience
• As games become more commonplace, consumers are becoming used to gaming elements. This will drive uptake of gamification into other areas, such as learning and personal development.

Esta industria está cambiando como no lo había hecho nunca antes, según refleja el último informe de Ericsson ConsumerLab titulado “Nuevas maneras de jugar”. Los juegos se han convertido en algo socialmente más aceptable como una forma normal de cultura y los consumidores están buscando una inmersión y socialización con los juegos. Esto lleva a demandar dispositivos y herramientas para estar continuamente mejorando, ofreciendo nuevas y mejoradas experiencias.
“La introducción de dispositivos multifunción, basados en aplicaciones y muy personalizados como el smartphone ha permitido que los juegos lleguen a una mayor audiencia”, explica Niklas Heyman Rönnblom, Asesor Senior del Ericsson ConsumerLab. “Muchos de los juegos que están en el mercado hoy están impulsando la conectividad a Internet y añaden aspectos como el juego múltiple. Como esto continúa desarrollándose va a acentuar la importancia de la mejora en la cobertura, la fiabilidad y el rendimiento de las redes. Este informe está basado en entrevistas online con 60 jugadores (20 por cada país) en EEUU, Corea del Sur y Brasil, 8.000 respuestas online de estos tres países y 13 entrevistas a expertos académicos en esta materia.
Puntos de interés encontrados en el informe:
• El perfil de jugador está cambiando. La investigación llevada a cabo demuestra que el 85% de los que han contestado las encuestas en Corea del Sur, el 75% en Estados Unidos y el 53% en Brasil juegan a juegos con consola o con dispositivo móvil. Hay una división también entre hombres y mujeres, ligeramente más elevada de hombres en Brasil. El 50% de los jugadores en Estados Unidos tenían más de 34 años, mientras que en Corea del Sur tenían más de 40. En Brasil casi el 60% de los jugadores no llega a los 30 años.
• El ancho de banda es el aspecto más importante de la calidad de la red para poder jugar, pero también la estabilidad y la fiabilidad. Pero el punto más engorroso para los que habitualmente juegan online es la interrupción de la experiencia.
